July 14, 1983 – First meeting held to identify support for creating a homeless shelter in Springfield, IL.
August 2, 1984 – 906 N. 5th St. was purchased for Inner City Mission. The first resident moved in August 26th.
May 31, 1987 – Purchased the current location of ICM at 714 & 720 N. 7th St.
1989 – 726 North 7th St. was purchased & converted into the clothing distribution center.
1998 – ICM started service retreats for youth groups. These groups stay at the mission for 1-7 nights doing work projects, getting to know the residents & learning about homelessness.
2000– ICM opened more rooms in the office building to house residents.
2003 –A strategic plan is developed & approved by the Board of Trustees to guide ICM’s approach in combating the growing number of homeless.
2004 – Board of Trustees directs the development of a program based on the radical transformations that have taken place in the lives of many homeless over the past 10 years.
2006 – The Shattered 2 Shalom educational program is implemented.
2007 – ICM established a working relationship with Contact Ministries of Springfield, IL & Genesis Ministries of Lincoln, IL in order to help these ministries in their work with the homeless.
2008 – Board of Trustees directs Scott to develop a plan for extending ICM’s ministry to the homeless.
2009 – The Stability Project introduced to reach out to supporters as we prepare to help more homeless find their way home.
