What works? At ICM, we believe that the Housing First approach brings about the greatest potential for lasting change in the lives of the homeless. We have been practicing this concept for the past twelve years. We provide shelter without a screening process. Once an individual or family enters the shelter then we start looking at their Relational & Inner Resources to define their potential for stability.
ICM has developed the belief that the cause of modern-day acute/chronic homelessness in America is a direct result of the breakdown of the individuals Relational Resources. This limits the development of an individual’s Inner Resources that are needed to provide sound values, morals and ethics which lay at the foundation of the achievement and maintenance of Physical Resources.
Once the breakdown occurs in an individual’s Relational Resources the likelihood of this type of breakdown being passed on to the next generation is expected. This cycle can only be broken when a significant relationship(s) is created in the life of the individual and the relational resources are stabilized.
At ICM we work to overcome acute/chronic homelessness by providing an environment where Relational and Inner Resources are developed. Once these resources are stabilized, then the individual will have the tools needed to obtain and maintain Physical Resources that will lead to stability and independence.
That is why ICM has created a program that deals with seven basic human needs: Relational Resources, Inner Resources, Spirituality, Health, Addictions, Education/Work, and Physical Resources. The program is called Shattered 2 Shalom (S2S) which consists of seven stages of progression that are broken down into three major levels.
