I began mentoring Solomon in early 2008. It has been a great experience from the start. We did a variety of things including having dinner together at the mall or trying many different restaurants around Springfield, going to the movie theater, skating, swimming at the pool, visiting St. Louis zoo, playing video games, and lately we have been going to Barnes and Noble to read a book together.

The time spent together has been priceless and provides countless great conversations and teachable moments. It has been fun to watch Solomon grow both in stature and his walk with God. Through this experience, I have also learned quite a bit about character, gratitude, blessings and shared life.

What do I think about mentoring? It is something everyone should try and you never know how much it’ll change both your life and the kid’s life for the better.
